John Milton’s Travelling Impressions

15 jan

In his time, John Milton (1608-1674) spoke of liberty and freedom of thought and expression. Admired by Alexander Pope (1688-1744) and considered the greatest English poet by none but William Blake (1757-1827), he inspired many to embrace a writing career and humanist thoughts. Born in England in the last century (about the mid 1950s) but living in Brazil, teaching English Literature at USP, another John Milton keeps records of his travelling adventures, perhaps in search o his own Paradise Lost, making us think of  how vast our world is and how deep its contrasts. Take a time to read his considerations on the realities he found on the other side of the globe and ponder on how much we don’t know what we don’t know. This first text is about Taiwan. Worth reading and following.
